of bring on the dancing horses. Almost as soon as we had
arrived we swapped one form of horsepower for another,
at a medieval themed equestrian event and banquet.
Jousting, and other forms of horseplay, featured heavily
in the hour-long performance with a medley of Magyar vs
Mongol, man-to-man combat, to round things off before we
retired to the Great Hall and the promised feast.
It’s been another busy day, but thankfully the sweeps had
an easier run of things. Bertie and Charlotte van Houtte’s
Porsche lost a rear shock bolt before the start of the first
Regularity, a situation quickly rectified by Andy Inskip and
Charlie Neale. Tony Rowe and Mark Delling’s Ford broke a fan
belt before the start of the second Regularity. They set to with
their spanners and had almost finished before Owen Turner
and Russ Smith arrived and signed the job off as satisfactory.
Lastly, it’s Ean Lewin’s birthday so we wish him many
happy returns and hope he’s had a great day.

Then came two Regularities, the first from Ochsattel
crossing the Obersberg in the beautiful Schneeberg
range. Running through a tree filled valley on a pristine,
white gravel piste, with just enough sideways slip to
keep the drivers happy. The second Regularity, over
the Semmering Pass, was quite literally the high point
of the day. It shot the rally to a dizzying 965m before
zig-zagging back down through a series of vast railway
viaducts depicted on a 150 years of the Alpine Railway
commemorative €25 coin.
Some great views and a series of minor roads delivered
us to the Passage Control in Sankt Corona am Wechsel,
which made sure we were all on the valedictory path to
the Hungarian border. With no informal border formalities
today, next up was the Time Control in Kőszeg, where
we enjoyed our first Hungarian lunch. From here it was a
straight run to the night halt in Sümeg, where it was a case
