Ean Lewin was carrying out a spanner check in the spotless
engine bay of his Escort Mexico, which showed no signs
of the carb’ fire it suffered in Spain. Keith Ashworth was
cleaning his windshield, whilst Daniel Wiedemann was
under the bonnet of his Mercedes checking levels and
topping up the oil. Michael Kershaw’s teddy bear was
soaking up the sun on the tailgate of the Range Rover.
The bear reports having a great time, remarking that the
marmalade sandwiches this far east have surpassed his
wildest expectations.
Navigators were busy as well, looking at amendments and
speed tables, anything to give them an edge when the clock
is ticking and the pressure is on. Renate Hanselmann was
offering navigation hints to Jindřiška Žemličková, whilst
Mark Delling, Charlotte van Houtte and Marcus Eatough
sat in splendid isolation scribbling and transcribing.

A warm, sunny Széchenyi Square greeted the rally
this morning as the crews made their way to the
cars and, as they waited for their due time, there
was a lot of tinkering going on.
