Day 20: Tekirdağ to Istanbul, 3 July 2022

“We saw everyday as a new challenge but we took a big
leap forward on the wet and muddy Time Control section
on the way to Bucharest. We look after the car and it looks
after us, we know how to drive it and I reckon we only took
it to 90% of its capability over the rough stuff”.
Graham finished by congratulating Steve and Jenny on
their impressive trajectory from first time to first place but
pleaded “please don’t buy a pre-war car”!
What next for Graham and Marina now that the rally
pressure is off? Will they be taking their foot off the gas
and enjoying some time away from the car? Not quite, after
only a day away from their beloved Bentley, they’re due to
set off for the drive home via Greece and Italy!
Second place in the classics category was a hard-fought
tie between Mike and Lorna Harrison with their Volvo and
Ean and Alison Lewin in a Ford Escort. But, as per the rules,
it was awarded in favour of the oldest car which meant that
Mike and Lorna took home the trophy. Naturally, they were
both pleased and Lorna also won the navigators award.
“This was a tough rally and a hard-fought last day, there
was bit of traffic to deal with on the last Regularity which
certainly gave us some tense moments, but we kept our

35 years so bringing one on a rally was an obvious choice.
I didn’t look at it from a practical view, it was a decision
from the heart and it seemed appropriate. Luckily, we’ve
got a reliable car and had no mechanical issues. Jenny’s
navigation skills are incredible and I’ve got to thank her for
everything she’s done.
“We’re obviously delighted with this win, we always do
our best and we take every day as it comes, but to roll
home in first place is extra special. The event was organised
superbly. Rally the Globe are an amazing team and every
day ran seamlessly.”
Graham and Marina Goodwin have been at this game
for quite a while now and have snagged some serious
silverware along the way. But despite the shelves of their
trophy cabinet filling rapidly, they still have a hunger for
victory and an analytical approach which they shared
with us.
“We nearly lost it at the start when we dropped the ball
and slipped way down the leaderboard. We were a bit
down in the dumps but, we knew that this was a long event
and, with all of our experience in long distance rallies, we
decided that there was enough time to make amends.
