bunch of competitors who, whilst pulling no punches on
the road, were very friendly and supportive of each other
throughout. It’s been a real pleasure to travel with them.
“Getting a rally to Istanbul has long been a dream of
mine and, with all of the problems we’ve had with Covid
travel restrictions etc, today it all came true. Putting on
the rally has been an incredible team effort and I’d like
to thank Loren Price for her hard work in the office and
on the road, as well as our incredible group of travelling
marshals, medics and mechanics. We couldn’t have done
it without them”.
Mark Appleton, the Clerk of the Course, was also pleased
with what Rally the Globe had achieved. “Clearly this has
been the sort of event which has left the crews wanting
more of the same. So, now we turn our attention to rallying
even more of the globe with next year’s Alaska to Mexico
Marathon and then onwards to the Road to Hanoi”.

As well as the overall and class awards there were some
discretionary prizes. ‘Spirit of the Rally’ went to Renate
Hanselmann and Lukas Ospelt who, despite at times
having only three wheels on their wagon never stopped
smiling. The ‘Against all Odds’ trophy went to Jean
Vincent and Marcel Peumans whose Bentley blew a piston
ring on day one and needed more than a bit of work to get
it back in shape.
The Ypres to Istanbul Challenge was the brainchild of
Rally Director Fred Gallagher and, after 18 months of
planning, recceing, and rallying he was a happy man after
his marathon session with the chequered flag.

a highly competitive, yet incredibly social, rally through
