Sometimes the musical stars align in just
the right way, and at just the right time,
something great is born. And the brand
new, self-titled album from two of
Manchester's finest, Liam Gallagher and
John Squire, is a prime example of that.
The album is a complex mix of musical
styles, from nostalgic bluesy riffs to singa-long anthems. The collaboration of
John and Liam's creative minds has
taken a broad spectrum of musical
influences and used that influence to
create a modern masterpiece.
Opening up with 'Raise Your Hands', a
song for the masses for sure. The lyrics
will have an instant connection with
people as Liam talks directly to the
listener and says, 'I'm the same as you'. It
is definitely one that will get the crowd
involved at live shows. John's guitar work
gives a taste of things to come, with the
whole track being gloriously guitarcentric.
The album starts off strong with 'Mars To
Liverpool', which has one of the most
memorable opening lines I think I've ever
heard. I'll not spoil it for you in case you
haven't heard it yet, although it is one of
the tracks that has already been released,
so you can check it out for yourself. The
vocals are very strong, with a lush melody
that sucks you right in. The hook is
infectious; it's an earworm, and one that I
don't mind having to be fair.
