ALBUM REVIEW
The north-east of England has
long been known for its rich
musical history and cultural
heritage. A legacy of music and
entertainment that has given us
some of the world's biggest
stars.
Now in 2024, the North East has
born creative fruit yet again with
the release of 'A Different Kind
of Difficult', the new album from
Specky Cult. The band is made
up of Rob Glover, Carol Stephen,
and Rob Carol. Specky Cult are
not your conventional band,
they have a unique sound that is
a glorious mix of musical theatre
and electric rock to punk and
acoustic sounds, all mixed up
together with quirky lyrics and
plenty of catchy hooks.
The band have written two
musicals, the songs from the
first can be found on their
album 'Jumping On Our Own
Bandwagon (Songs from the
play). Their second musical was
created during lockdown and
originally called 'Specky Cult Must
Die', and many of the songs from
that musical are included on the
new album 'A Different Kind of
Difficult'.
The band has already released
'Comeback Kid' as the first single
from the album. It's a great
introduction to the sound of
Specky Cult. If you enjoy a break
from the constraints of musical
'norms' and are looking for
something creative, unique, and
refreshingly fun, then this is the
album for you.
Specky Cult have spent a lot of
time making sure the musical
arrangements are spot on and
they have definitely succeeded in
that endeavour, with 11 superbly
crafted pieces of music. 'A
Different Kind of Difficult' is due
for release on the 1st of March, so
go check it out and start the
month off with a gem of a record.
