ALBUM REVIEW

Alt-pop Indie Rockers Mother
Mother would be forgiven for
resting on their laurels and
taking
some
well
earned
downtime having spent the
best part of the last twenty years
slogging away and building an
impressive back catalogue and
worldwide following. But no,
Mother Mother aren't messing
around. The band's brand new
full length album 'Grief Chapter'
is one of the most exciting
albums I have heard in a long
time.
From start to finish the upbeat
music and nuanced vocal
arrangements grab you by the
ear and drag you around a
pretty darn impressive 12 tracks.
There isn't a moment in the
album that I felt I wanted to fast
forward but there were plenty of
times that I hit the rewind button
because what I had just heard
was so different that I just had to
hear it again. It is a rare thing to
find an album that makes me do
that.
Laden
with
glorious
vocal
harmonies, there is so much
going on from the high energy
opener 'Nobody Escapes' to the
closing
track
and
album's
namesake 'Grief Chapter'. With its
highly emotive lyrics and beautiful
acoustic guitar work, the contrast
in tempo from the opening to
closing track is a testament to the
journey that Mother Mother takes
you on when you click play.
There is a lot of talk about death
throughout the album, but rather
than focussing on the inevitable
demise of each of us, Mother
Mother focus on how precious
that inevitability makes each and
every moment of life.
They seem to be saying , live life to
the full every second of everyday,
rather than a gloomy message of
impending doom.
'Grief Chapter' is a stunning
album that everyone needs to
hear, musical talent and lyrical
wizardry at its finest.
