something about it in this area too
by providing Merck Foundation
Media Training programmes and
Media Awards.
“Currently, we have trained over
2200 media representatives from
over 35 countries, who are doing
a tremendous work by helping
to create a culture shift through
raising awareness about social
and health issues like breaking
infertility stigma, supporting girl
education, healthy living and much
more,” she says.
Again, using the Merck
Foundation’s access and
partnerships with African First
Ladies, she has established 8
important Awards for Media,
Fashion Designers, Filmmakers
and Musicians/ Singers. The
Awards, which are divided
under the categories: The first
one covers breaking infertility
stigma, support girls’ education,
ending child marriage and FGM,
stopping Gender-based violence
and women empowerment.
The second category promotes
healthy lifestyles and raises
awareness about prevention and
early detection of diabetes and
hypertension.
Our Africa TV program
But that’s not all! Dr Kelej is
currently the host of a unique
pan-African TV Programme Our
Africa by Merck Foundation’ which
she conceptualised, produces
and directs. The programme
sensitises communities about all
the pertinent issues supported and
