The Operating Theatre Journal - Journal - Page 7
Back in 2021 when the EBME team first approached me about
potentially creating a new conference under the EBME umbrella I
was not totally convinced. I have presented at various national and
regional conferences around the country, and I was not sure that
there would be the demand for another.
So, I set about thinking how I could create a conference that was
unique, different, and yet delivered focussed and interesting content.
It was not until I changed my mindset as an ODP that I realised that
there was indeed an area of operating theatre healthcare that did
not have its own conference and one I was confident we could deliver.
The operating theatre is the original multi-disciplinary team. There
are numerous roles all working side by side, with unique skill sets and
quite often working independently to achieve the same goal. The best
possible care for the patient in the theatre at that time.
It was my idea to create a conference that represented all the
individual roles and bring them together in one arena.
My initial mantra was ‘porters to professors’, an equal platform to
learn and support everyone within the theatre MDT.
In its first year we had – ODP’s, nurses, governing bodies, junior
anaesthetist’s, consultant anaesthetists, consult surgeons and
national leads all contributing. This year we once again welcome the
Royal Navy back but also, we have our first international speaker
flying in from Israel.
The feedback we received from last year’s event was incredible,
with many delegates registering as soon as possible for this year.
I am committed to giving anybody a chance to present, I would be
delighted to consider potential speakers from any of the workforce
that helps to create the unique environment of the operating theatre.
We look forward to welcoming staff such as engineers, nurses,
doctors, buyers, trainers, operating theatre staff, and other healthcare
professionals.
It is Free to register online, please visit:

Our conference programmes will feature twenty presentations each day,
concentrating on understanding how we buy, use, maintain and manage
healthcare technology. To view the full conference programmes please
see: https://www.ebme.co.uk/seminar/programme .
Besides this, there will be many free to attend workshops each day in
the breakout areas, and we expect several of our exhibitors will want
to provide technical demonstrations.
Each qualifying ‘conference delegate’ that attends will receive an
attendance certificate for their continuing professional development
(CPD) records. They will also receive a free gift bag and be entered into
the prize draw at the end of each day. There are some great prizes for
the lucky delegates that are drawn out!

- Rob Brothwood,
The EBME Expo showcases the latest innovations in medical technology,
and imparts best practice with regard to management, acquisition, use,
and maintenance. It is important to raise awareness of how improved
management of healthcare technology, and connectivity, can lead to
better NHS productivity and lower healthcare costs. Ultimately, sharing
knowledge leads to improvements in best practice, enhancing patient
safety, and helping hospitals to deliver sustainable budgets.
Chairman of the Operating Theatre Conference
This year’s ‘sold out’ EBME Expo includes the following:

I am incredibly proud of the entire team behind the Expo, and I am
still very humbled to have been asked to take on this role.
The EBME Expo medical equipment exhibition and conferences
are committed to advancing medical equipment knowledge and
management to deliver sustainable improvements for healthcare
providers.
The EBME Expo team work hard with the exhibitors, speakers, and
the venue to ensure we deliver an excellent programme focussed on
innovations and advances in healthcare technology.
This year, we are excited to be hosting 3 conference areas:
1. EBME presentations – 2 days
2. Operating Theatres presentations – 2 days
3. Training presentations on day 1; Procurement presentations on Day 2.
EBME (Clinical Engineering) staff work very closely with Operating
Theatre staff ensuring medical equipment is available for users in
hospitals. Both are responsible for understanding the complexity of
the technology used and assisting users with any problems they may
encounter. When Medical equipment management is being done to the
highest standards, it also includes buying and training, which is why we
have now included a dedicated procurement and training conference
area.
