Maidstone based Cas Holmes is an artist, author and tutor at the prestigious West Dean
College. She trained in painting and photography at the University of Creative Arts, Kent which
was followed by further scholarships studying paper and textiles in Japan and India.
Cas is interested in the liminal, ‘in between’ spaces connecting land, place and environment
and working with textiles and mixed media, she creates textile collages using discarded and
‘found materials’. These are torn, cut, and re-assembled creating translucent layers, which
connect drawing, painting and image with cloth and stitch.
She is an exhibiting artist with Art Textiles Made in Britain and a member of Axisweb and
the Society for Embroidered Work. Cas is also author of Textile Landscape, Stitch Stories,
Connected Cloth and the Found Object in Textile Art (Batsford publications)
