Kent based textile artist Pam Smyth’s work is informed by her concern for endangered animals.
She enjoys the process of researching and designing her animal characters - drawing to give
them personalities, translating their shapes to fabric and adding texture with simple handstitches. A member of the Thirteen Textile Group, S.E.W., The Textile Studio, and The New
Embroidery Group, Pam also leads creativity projects
The Cuckoo is on the Red List of UK birds at risk and this piece is one of a series that was
exhibited in London in 2019 along with a Bittern and a Curlew. During sixteen weeks of the UK
Covid Lockdown, Pam stitched an endangered bird character each week.
