TASTY TREATS
Dehydrated Turkey, Squash & Blueberry Treat
A recipe for grain-free, nutritious, natural treats.
Dehydrated at a low temperature to retain
nutrient content.
Ingredients:
500g Turkey minced/ground
150g Pumpkin or Butternut Squash
50g Blueberries
1 Flax egg (egg substitute, a flax egg is simply 1 tbsp.
Ground flaxseed mixed with 2.5 tbsp. water)
1. F inely chop the pumpkin/butternut squash, mix
the flax egg and add all ingredients into a mixing
bowl or a conventional processor/mixer. Mix by
hand or process at low speed.
2. Form the dough-like mixture into thin strips and
spread them out evenly on a baking tray. You may
have a tray which already has moulds, which will
be easier. Thinner strips will dehydrate quicker,
but aim for around 1/2 inch thick.
3. T o use your oven for dehydrating/low temperature
cooking; preheat oven to 75°C, then place the
treats inside for 4-5 hours. Take one out and
check it’s dried through, with no sign of moisture.
If more time is needed, then place them back in
the oven. If your oven doesn’t have a warm or dry
feature and won’t go as low as 75°C, set it at the
lowest temperature and check on the treats
periodically. Obviously, if you have a food
dehydrator, then use that.
4. O
nce dried, allow to cool and store in an airtight
container in the fridge. Alternatively you can store
a portion in the freezer.
