Live Literature at 11 Parnell Square
In 2018 our busy live
literature programme
included two new strands
at 11 Parnell Square.
Joseph Woods, Eva Bourke, Nuala Ní
Dhomhnaill, Stephen James Smith,
Maria McManus, Maureen Boyle
Breda Wall Ryan and Jane Robinson
to mention just some.
They Tuck You Up Your Mum and
Dad and Soul Clap Its Hands and
Sing, which we presented in
collaboration with the Irish
Traditional Music Archive, ran
throughout the year. A number of
memorable events featured poets,
musicians, and well-known figures
such as Pat Boran, Mary O’Malley,
Vona Groarke, Blake Morrison, Kevin
Doherty, Linda Buckley, Jane Clarke,
Paul Rouse, Olivia O’Leary, Diarmaid
Ferriter, Nessa O’Mahony and more.
A number of seminars found a home
with us including the invigorating
Missing Voices seminar in October,
supported by TCD, and a fascinating
event around Edmund Spenser,
presented by UCD.
Launches and other events at Poetry
Ireland featured poets including John
Kelly, Jessica Traynor, James Harpur,
Theo Dorgan, Doireann Ní Ghríofa,
Lemme Talk, our new monthly open
mic night, presented in partnership
with Slam Sunday, launched in
November to a packed house.
This year we also presented a number
of events in partnership with
IMRAM, including Fathach File/
Reluctant Modernist, a bilingual
exhibition presented by NUIG on
the poet Máirtín Ó Direáin.
