Live Literature across the island
Working in partnership with
the Office of Public Works,
we presented The Heart of
Summer, live music and
literature performances at
Emo Court, Glebe Gallery
and Derrynane House.
Hosted by Olivia O’Leary, The Heart
of Summer featured Annemarie Ní
Churreáin, Pat Boran, Vona Groarke,
Moya Cannon, Mary Costello, Kerry
Hardie and more. The series was also
recorded for broadcast on RTÉ Radio
1’s Poetry Programme.
Ireland’s major festivals were filled
with poetry this year and we were
delighted to be part of an event at
Kilkenny Arts Festival highlighting
the work of Derek Mahon, with
Peter Fallon and Stephen Rea. Eavan
Boland’s residency in Kilkenny was
a festival highlight for many, and
Poetry Ireland events also featured
in Galway International Arts Festival,
Belfast International Arts Festival in
partnership with the John Hewitt
International Summer School,
Listowel Writers Week, the Cork
International Poetry Festival, Cúirt
International Festival of Literature,
ILFDublin, Clifden Arts Festival,
Mountains to Sea DLR Book Festival
and Dublin Book Festival.
We continued to support regular
poetry series like Ó Bhéal in Cork
and Over the Edge in Galway. We
presented events like poet laureate
Carol Ann Duffy and Theo Dorgan
in Project Arts Centre in association
with Picador, as well as The Wild
Dog Rose, a tribute to the late John
Montague featuring Paul Muldoon,
Paddy Moloney, Triona Marshall and
David Power at the NCH and at Cork’s
Triskel Arts Centre.
