Live Literature across the island
Working in partnership with
the Office of Public Works
and RTÉ Radio 1’s Poetry
Programme, we presented
The Heart of Summer for a
second year in a row.
A feast of poetry and music in some
of Ireland’s great historic houses, The
Heart of Summer visited Doneraile
Court in Cork, Derrynane House in
Kerry, Glebe House and Gallery in
Donegal and Emo Court in Laois.
Several of the concerts were recorded
for later broadcast on The Poetry
Programme.
After a hugely successful tour in Ireland
in 2017, Muldoon’s Picnic returned
to our shores during July and August
2019. Hosted by Pulitzer Prize winning
poet Paul Muldoon and featuring a
stellar line up, the music and literature
extravaganza (which was produced
by Poetry Ireland) went on tour in
Sligo, Dublin, Cork, Ennis, Carrickon-Shannon and Belfast, where Van
Morrison was a surprise guest.
Ireland’s major festivals were filled with
poetry this year and we were delighted
to present Don Paterson in partnership
with Kilkenny Arts Festival. Poetry
Ireland events also featured at Dublin
Book Festival, Belfast International Arts
Festival in partnership with the John
Hewitt International Summer School,
ILFDublin, Mountains to Sea DLR
Festival, Clifden Arts Festival, and The
Lit Young Writers’ Festival.
We also continued to support regular
poetry series around the country,
including Ó Bhéal in Cork and Over
the Edge in Galway.
