EXTENDED LEARNING PROJECT
Celebrating Achievement
This year, we have reimagined homework for our Year 7
and Year 8 students.
In addition to literacy homework set weekly, students
were asked to opt-in to a homework project each half
term in a subject of their choice.
These projects were devised by teachers to include a
diverse range of activities in order to broaden our
students' experience beyond the classroom. For example:
producing a time line scroll of Roman Chester Roman to
present day in history; creating stage sets for a musical
production from shoe boxes in drama and rain forests in
geography; designing body adornment using paper
manipulation in Design Technology and a whole host of
other creative opportunities.
These projects are designed to promote a love of
learning, foster students' existing passions and
encourage independent skills.
I am hugely impressed by the wide range of
students who embraced this new homework
opportunity and created wonderful projects!
Subject teachers were asked to nominate students
who had gone above and beyond in their
homework effort, and this was reduced to a final
list of 30 students. These lucky winners enjoyed
an ice cream treat in the sculpture garden to
celebrate their success and showcase their final
pieces. A massive well done to all students
involved! I look forward to the creation of more
projects from September.
