Farewell from Mrs Scanlon
When I arrived in September 2006, who
could have imagined that I would be
sharing my goodbye at the end of 16
years? Not me, for sure. Back then, I
could never have anticipated how
important Queen’s Park would become
to me. For those of you who know the
school well; whether as a member of
staff or as a student, you will easily be
able to understand how special the
place is and how it gets hold of you in a
way that it’s easy to just become part of
the place and very difficult to leave. I’ve
told students that I could never just go to
a new school which is why this next step
is about a completely new challenge for
me working alongside schools to ensure
that all young people have the best
opportunities.
Over the years, I have undertaken lots of
different roles which have allowed me to
work closely with many special young
people. There have been ups and
downs along the way, but my lasting
memories will always be of the good
times. As Mr Kearns has said on many
occasions, the things we remember from
our school days are not the great
English or music lessons we had one
Tuesday in December, but all of the
extra opportunities and experiences
which leave a mark on us and that is the
case for me as a teacher too. As well as
the wonderful in class experiences I
have had as a teacher during my time
here whether that be in: music,
criminology, English and even French(!),
I have been very lucky to be involved in
many experiences during my time here
and to spend time with our students
outside of the classroom. From the
many musical shows we’ve produced
over the years showcasing the immense
talent we have here, to residential visits
from Conway to LA and London to New
York. These are the experiences which
have really shown me the best of our
QPHS team and I am grateful for the
teams that I’ve worked and travelled with
who are genuinely the most dedicated
and talented colleagues (and friends),
and with whom I know that the future
students will continue to be supported,
challenged and encouraged by.
Queen’s Park will always hold a very
important place in my heart, and as I’ve
said to all of the students who have
spoken to me about my future plans, you
can’t get rid of me that easily and I look
forward to keeping in touch and seeing
all of the success that is to come for
every young person who is lucky enough
to be part of this family. Thank you to the
whole QPHS team; students, parents,
staff and our community; I will miss you
all but know that the future of the school
is one which will go from strength to
strength.
Mrs Scanlon,
Former Deputy Headteacher
