Spotlight on Volunteers
Visitors flock to Queenscourt’s Open Garden Event
Hundreds of supporters visited Queenscourt for the Open
Garden event on Saturday 10th June.
The event raised more than £2,000 through a variety of activities
and stalls including refreshments, cakes, ra昀툀es, plant sales,
tombola and forget-me-not gifts.
We were delighted to see old friends, neighbours and supporters
from across Formby, Southport and West Lancashire and to
welcome them back into Queenscourt’s wonderful grounds.
Apart from the activities available to guests, all those who
attended were also able to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, and to
appreciate the hard work and dedication of our volunteer gardeners
and estates team whose hard work and dedication helps to keep
the woodland walk, pond and gardens looking so lovely.
Members of #teamqueenscourt were also in attendance with their
families and friends, while children (and adults!) took part in a “hunt
the butter昀氀y” competition, which was great fun.
Amanda Bradley, HR and Volunteering Manager at Queenscourt,
said: “We were thrilled to be able to welcome our wider community
back to Queenscourt once again, so that they can enjoy our
beautiful gardens after four years of covid restrictions.
“The open garden was a fantastic opportunity to help raise
funds for our charity, as well as allowing us to meet supporters old
and new.
“We would like to say a big thank you to all of our volunteers who
participated and those who worked so hard to get the grounds
ready for this event – especially Shelley Lewis-Lavender and Frank
Owen who worked tirelessly to make the event a success, and Elite
Marquees which very kindly provided the marquee for us.
“We couldn’t have done it without our team of wonderful volunteers
– as ever, they are amazing!”
Carole & Tony Toal
Queenscourt Hospice is extremely grateful to Tony and Carole
Toal, who have raised an incredible £30,000 for Queenscourt
since their fundraising began nearly 20 years ago.
Tony sadly died last year – and Carole says she remains
committed to continuing his legacy and fundraising for
Queenscourt whenever she can.
Over the last 20 years, the pair have supported Queenscourt by
taking three tables at our Queenscourt Ball, organised various
lunches as well as decorating their home in Christmas lights each
year to raise funds.
Carole said: “A few of our loved
ones have been cared for by the
fantastic team at Queenscourt,
including my cousin.
“Their care and understanding
of their patients’ needs is
excellent – everyone in our
community speaks so highly of
#teamqueenscourt.
“I also take part in Queenscourt’s
weekly lottery and have a rose
10
blooming in my garden which I bought as part of the hospice’s
pearl anniversary.
Carole’s plans don’t stop there, she added: “If the opportunity
arose – I’d love to do an abseil for Queenscourt!
“I would also highly recommend becoming a volunteer for
Queenscourt – they are always on the look out for more people to
become part of their team.”
