Hayley Jones – Community & Challenge Events Fundraiser
Hayley has joined #teamqueenscourt as our Community and
Challenge Events Fundraiser. Her role involves organising challenging
but fun activities such as sky dives, abseils and marathons, all with the
aim of raising much-needed funds to help keep Queenscourt in service.
Hayley also oversees events that take place in the community and is
constantly looking out for what’s happening next.
She has previously worked in a wide range of industries, including
schools and festivals, but most recently as Operations Coordinator at
David Rowell Ltd. Hayley is also a Breakfast Presenter on Dune Radio,
a local radio station for Southport and the Fylde Coast.
Her biggest achievement to date was taking part in the 2018 London
Marathon, in memory of her friend and raising more
than £4,000.
Hayley said: “This wonderful place means so
much to so many people in the West Lancashire,
Southport and Formby communities and whenever
anyone is doing a fundraiser for Queenscourt,
people come out in their masses! I have taken part in many fundraisers
for Queenscourt myself, including the Santa Sprint 5k and Star Trekk,
but now actually being part of #teamqueenscourt, makes me so
proud. I am really looking forward to my future here and seeing all that I
can achieve for our charity.”
Queenscourt Quality Team
Suzanne Ball & Heather Slater, Quality & Governance Co-ordinators
for Queenscourt explain more about their roles.
Suzanne joined #teamqueenscourt about 18 months ago and Heather
joined in May this year. Their their roles support the constant improvement
of the excellent care provided.
As well as ensuring sta昀昀 are up to date with training, Quality Assurance
is the eyes and ears of Queenscourt. It records feedback received from
patients and their families, as well as liaising with Community Healthcare
Providers to deliver collaborative care.
Suzanne and Heather support sta昀昀 with their mandatory training and
ensure that they are up to date, as well as creating induction programmes
for new Clinical Sta昀昀 joining Queenscourt. They also record all safety
alerts and any action required as a result, ensuring that those at every level
are aware of what needs to be done.
The Quality Team will order clinical equipment to support the day-to-day
running of the Inpatient Unit and Queenscourt’s Palliative Care Nurses
in the community. They also ensure that all equipment in the hospice is
serviced and report
any faults to the Health,
Safety & Estates Manager
who coordinates the
necessary repairs
or replacements.

Heather Slater
Assurance is a vital tool
which helps #teamqueenscourt to deliver the best care possible for our
patients and their loved ones. She said: “Quality Assurance demonstrates
how we are a safe, caring, responsive, e昀昀ective and well-run organisation.
Our team also assists in the gathering and reporting of data to evidence
how Queenscourt Hospice meets these key areas with the aim of
continuously improving and developing patient care and experience.”
Heather loves the variety of the role and the di昀昀erence it makes, she
said “the fact that you get to support all teams across the hospice is
really rewarding. What we do can help to build con昀椀dence as well as
improve e昀케ciency.”

Wendy 昀椀rst joined #teamqueenscourt in 2009 as a Volunteer
Ward Clerk – before qualifying in her current role as
Complementary Therapist.
The therapies Wendy provide include aromatherapy, re昀氀exology,

relaxation therapy.
Wendy says: “breathlessness management is really valuable in engaging
patients and their families with new techniques – it helps to empower the
family to do something positive to help relieve breathlessness.”
The therapy sessions are delivered via video or telephone call, on the ward
at Queenscourt and through the outpatient clinics – and in house training is
provided for Queenscourt sta昀昀, Queenscourt at Home
and volunteers.
Wendy also engages with medical students on
placement from Edge Hill University and Liverpool
John Moores University about the di昀昀erent therapies
o昀昀ered and the role they play in patient care.
Wendy said: “I feel it’s a privilege to work alongside other professionals,
to be able to o昀昀er patients comforting touch and therapies in a safe
environment at Queenscourt.
“Being able to make a di昀昀erence to patients and their
families at such a di昀케cult time is very rewarding.”
