Queenscourt Retail
Joan Rimmer
– Queenscourt Retail Bank Manager
After volunteering at one of Queenscourt’s charity shops,
Joan Rimmer was delighted when she joined the Retail Team
as Bank Assistant Shop Manager. She remains passionate
about working for a charity that is close to her heart.
“I have worked for Queenscourt Retail as Queenscourt Retail Bank
Manager for over 18 months now. Before this, I was a volunteer for
Queenscourt Retail at the Churchtown charity shop where I applied
and was successful in my application for my current position.
I cover the 昀椀ve retail outlets when the Shop Managers or Assistant
Shop Managers are o昀昀 on annual leave or due to sickness. I enjoy
the 昀氀exibility this gives me and for the opportunity to work across the
shops, meeting all our lovely volunteers and customers.
My everyday responsibilities are the same as the Managers in
post, whereby I am responsible for the opening of the shop on
time and of its secure closure at the end of the day’s business.
I maintain supervision of any volunteers in my charge, oversee
the smooth running of any purchases or refunds going through the
till; ensure the health and wellbeing of both sta昀昀 and customers
and maintain shop cleanliness. I also keep myself up to date with
current memos and protocols and attend mandatory training days
as required.
The money raised by our charity shops goes to #teamqueenscourt
and it means a lot to me to able to support this invaluable service.
My mother, mother-in-law
and best friend of many
years were cared for by
#teamqueenscourt, and
they made all the di昀昀erence.
The care provided was
second to none and I am
proud to say that I play a
part in my work generating
funds through sales within
the shops and promoting
fundraising events.
I am very passionate about
helping to raise funds for
this wonderful local charity and have personally donated a lot of my
clothes during my recent weight loss with Slimming World to raise
funds for this worthy cause.
As I travel around the retail shops and work within them all, I have
grown to truly appreciate the work our volunteers do. From sorting
and cleaning all donated items, to working on the till and creating
fabulous window displays.
My favourite window display so far was that at Bispham Road with
the memorable dress made out of books and paper to promote
Queenscourt. It was very creative and the paper dress got sold
afterwards to an admiring customer!
In my opinion, the best-selling items are ladies clothing with ladies’
tops being our best sellers.”
