The road to post-16 success starts with
GCSE choices in Year 9. Triple Science is
started early, and students make their
options choices in February of their Year 9.
The current curriculum offering means
that all who wish to do so can choose
EBacc subjects at GCSE. However, we do
not insist that EBacc is the only route.
We feel that young people should study
subjects they love. So if a student wishes to
study Art, Music and Drama for three of
their options choices, then that is what
they will do.
The students of Robert May’s School are
fortunate to choose from several
outstanding, high performing sixth form
colleges and further education institutions
in the area.
The majority go on to take up places at
Farnborough Sixth Form College, Alton
Sixth form College, Queen Mary College
and Peter Symonds College. Some go on to
blended and vocational courses at
Farnborough College of Technology and
Basingstoke College of Technology (FCoT
and BCoT).
Careers advice and guidance, Personal,
Social, Sexual Health and Relationships
information, internet safety advice, and
financial planning advice are all key topics
across our tutorial system which is
delivered through assemblies and in a
regular weekly lesson on Thursdays.
opportunities, mock interviews for college,
work experience opportunities and off-site
vocational visits make up the broad
offering of support for helping young
people discover what they want to be, and
then pursuing the “how and when”.
