NURSERY
SPOTLIGHT
Twinkle Cottage
We were delighted to have been asked by Twinkle Cottage Day Nursery in Portsmouth to do their training. They now have five
Apprentices on programme with us.
Twinkle Cottage Day Nursery, opened in September 2011 and operates from a
detached cottage in the Fratton area of Portsmouth. It is based on quality care and
learning from the ages of 3 months to 5 years. All babies, toddlers and children are
treated as individuals and the experienced, qualified practitioners ensure that not
only the children9s basic needs are met, but that each baby and child go home at the
end of the day having had an exciting, stimulating and most of all happy day!
Twinkle Cottage thrives on building strong relationships with
families that use the setting; they are regular visitors to the local
library, and can often be seen out and about in the local
community. They welcome parents and carers to come along to
see what is going on, maybe join the parent rota, or come in and
read a story.
The Avenue Nursery
We started working with The Avenue Nursery back in March, and we now have 2 Apprentices and 3 commercial learners with
them. This is a lovely setting in the heart of Petersfield.
The setting provides a fun, safe and homely 'learning-through-play'
environment in which the 'ducklings' (under two9s) and 'butterflies' (over
two9s) flourish, with support from a wonderful, experienced early years
team. They venture out most days to enjoy the market town and beautiful
surrounding countryside, and creatively expand on numeracy and literacy,
linking to multiple learning opportunities throughout. Excursions also
provide interactions with many people, including those 8who help us9 in our
community.
The Nursery has a dedicated discovery room for encouraging messy
scientific exploration and growing things; it also has a sensory room; and
dedicated baby room, toddler room, and pre-school room - each with their
own garden area. Problem solving, independence and critical thinking are
encouraged across all elements of our play, enabling social development
and discovery of the world around us. There is a rich tapestry of weekly
activities led by internal and external practitioners, such as sports and
music coaching, forest school, cookery, and yoga workshops.
