Types of Nurseries
Some nurseries and pre-schools offer a particular educational approach which use certain learning
environments, play equipment, teaching strategies, and activities. In this article, we will be
discussing The Montessori method, Forest Schools, and the Curiosity Approach.
MONTESSORI
A Montessori nursery, often referred to as a Montessori preschool or
Montessori early childhood programme, is an educational environment
based on the principles and philosophy of Maria Montessori, an Italian
physician and educator. The Montessori method emphasises a childcentred approach to education, promoting the development of a child's
own initiative and natural abilities.
FOREST SCHOOLS
A Forest School is an educational approach that takes place
outdoors in natural settings, often in forests or woodlands. The
concept originated in Scandinavia and has gained popularity in
various parts of the world. The primary goal of a forest school is to
encourage and inspire individuals through positive outdoor
experiences.
CURIOSITY APPROACH
The Curiosity Approach is an innovative and contemporary approach
to early childhood education. It emphasises creating rich, stimulating
environments that foster curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning
in young children. The approach views the learning environment as a
"recipe" that combines various elements to create a holistic and
engaging experience for children.
