Professional Discussion
The Professional Discussion component is a 90-minute
two-way, in-depth discussion between the apprentice and endpoint assessor. The end-point assessor will ask the apprentice a
minimum of 10 questions, and the discussion can take place faceto-face or remotely.
To support the Professional Discussion, you will be able to access
your portfolio of evidence, which will include 10-12 pieces of
evidence. Your EPA assessor will use your portfolio to prepare
questions for the Professional Discussion. Your tutor will provide
you with your portfolio by email (e.g. WeTransfer) as well as
provide you with a mapping and tracking document, which will
allow you to navigate through your portfolio. Make sure you
download and save these documents on to your laptop and
familiarise yourself with them.
The Knowledge Test
The Knowledge Test consists of 35-40 multiple choice questions,
and assesses the knowledge, skills and behaviours learnt
throughout the apprenticeship programme. There is a substantial
number of theories, psychological practices and safeguarding
knowledge required for competence to be confirmed.
You will have a maximum of 60 minutes to complete the test. For
the Level 2, the test consists of 40 questions and there will be five
questions related to K5 (Safeguarding) and five questions related
to K8 (Health and Safety). You will need to correctly answer three
in each to pass. For the Level 3, the test consists of 35 questions
and there will be five questions related to K15 (Safeguarding). You
will need to correctly answer all five to pass. The test can be
paper-based or online, and must be taken in a controlled
environment.
There are two EPA activities that all apprentices must undertake and pass for the overall apprenticeship to be achieved. This consists of
the Knowledge Test and the Professional Discussion.
The End-Point Assessment (EPA) is an assessment that takes place at the end of the apprenticeship programme which assesses the
knowledge, skills and behaviours learnt by the apprentice throughout the course. The EPA is carried out by Training Qualifications UK
(TQUK) and ensures that apprentices meet the standards set by employers, and that they are fully competent for their role. Before your
EPA, you need to complete a process called Gateway. Here, your employer and Showcase tutor will give the green light for you to proceed
with your EPA by making sure that you have completed all mandatory requirements.
