He also recounted how television had saved football. Thanks
to the broadcast of the matches that subsists, an agreement
has been reached in the Higher Sports Council for soccer to
allocate 5% of its income to the rest of the federations so that
they can survive. Faced with this situation, there is only one
solution: the vaccine, he said with conviction. "Immunity will
allow us to return to the fields and will turn around the vicious
circle we have gotten ourselves into."
The General Director of FEDEA, the main Spanish think tank
created at the initiative of the Bank of Spain, with enormous
clarity stated that economic activity has fallen by 10%, an
unprecedented situation in peacetime, comparable to what
happened after the Civil War or World War II.
What has been done? He told us simply: try to freeze the economy, stop the coup and allow companies not to
destroy themselves with measures such as ERTES, in which the government pays 70% of salaries; provide
liquidity to companies; facilitate protection measures for families (power cuts, rents, minimum wage). And so the
coup has stopped in the first phase. But, he warned us, now comes the most complicated thing, to get the
economy back on track little by little, reduce aid, recover activity. Combine protection with shoves. And we also
have to think about what to do next. We have to invest well and think about what we can do together to leave you a
better world ”. He regretted that this situation is more difficult because politicians continue to throw their heads at
each other and did not hesitate for a minute to point out that the most important measure of all is vaccination.
And he invited them to take advantage of every opportunity. “What is not dreamed of cannot be achieved. Do not be afraid of
failure, be afraid not to try. Dream everything you want to build, don't be afraid to fail because you will have time to overcome
Javier Vega de Seoane, former president of the Círculo de Empresarios, another think tank known for providing ideas for
growth, was in charge of closing the day. He explained to the students that in Spain we spend a tenth of the wealth we create
on health every year in a public-private combination and it is one of the two or three best in the world because we have less
spending than other countries and better health. “There is a system that we could call public health, which we could consider
as the army that defends the country from attacks or the security forces that bring order. The public health system has failed
us, which works so that we have healthy habits and prevent actions in case of emergency ”.
Despite the pessimism we perceive, he added that humanity has never been better, we have more means than ever, a great
abundance thanks to technology. He shared with the students his concern about increasing inequality in society.
The final touch to the meeting was put with a hopeful message, “we are going to leave strengthened. The pandemic has
acted as a catalyst to accelerate the transformation process and leave you with a better world full of opportunities ”.
