About Soil Association Certification
Soil Association Certification
is the UK’s leading certification
body of organic health and beauty
products, as well as food, farming,
catering, textiles and forestry.
Certifying around 70% of the
organic market in the UK
the Soil Association Organic
symbol is the most recognised
organic logo in the UK. Soil
Association Certification is a
not-for-profit company, part of
the Soil Association charity; the
UK’s leading membership charity
campaigning for healthy, humane
and sustainable food, farming and
land use.
Pioneers in the certified organic
beauty movement, the Soil
Association was one of the first
organisations worldwide to
develop standards for organic
health & beauty products almost
20 years ago. In 2005 we teamed
up with four other European
partners to develop a new
standard for organic and natural

How to certify
Soil Association certification is
the gold standard for health and
beauty products. We offer three
schemes for certification, COSMOS
Organic, COSMOS Natural and Soil
Association Health & Beauty.
A product can be labelled as
organic if it contains a minimum
percentage (defined in the
standard) of ingredients from
organic farming. In addition a very
high percentage of agricultural
ingredients like oils and extracts
have to be organic.
Soil Association Health & Beauty
standards cover a range of
product categories including
home cleaning, healthcare, pet
care and candles that do not fall
under COSMOS.
