PHYSIOTHERAPY
Physiotherapy works to improve individual’s physical functioning and
wellbeing through exercises and interventions to maximise strength,
range of movement, balance, coordination and motor control.
Physiotherapy provides support with:
Reduced range of movement
Spasticity and splinting
Orthotic equipment - protective helmets, limb
gaiters, specialist footwear and insoles
Physiotherapy Groups & 1:1 sessions
Hydrotherapy - therapy-lead session based on Aquaepps Paediatric
Neurological Dysfunction, working on a learner’s strength, range of
movement and tone using the properties of water
Rebound Therapy - therapy-lead exercise sessions based on the
Winstrada Development and Award Programme using a trampoline
to improve a learner’s balance, strength, motor planning,
coordination and to reduce/increase tone
Star Club - an exercise session working on core physical skills such
as balance, flexibility, fitness, strength and turn taking skills
Physio skills - an exercise session working to improve general
wellbeing and increase physical abilities and skills to participate in
games and physical challenges
Core Group - an exercise programme to improve core strength and
posture
Yoga - an exercise programme to improve balance, coordination,
flexibility and range of movement in a calm environment
1:1 individual sessions - physiotherapy sessions designed for the
individual’s needs and requirements
Upper limb co-ordination
Motor control
Muscle weakness
Pain management
Difficulties with mobility and mobility aids
Walking frame and standing frame assessments,
provisions and adjustments
Difficulties with balance and transfers
Respiratory difficulties
Fitness and personalised exercise programmes
Sleep systems for postural management
Vestibular Rehabilitation
Orthopaedic therapy - post injury/fractures
Scoliosis and back braces/lycra suits
Producing accessible care plans and guidelines for
staff
Staff training for the specific equipment use and
physiotherapy interventions
