POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT
The PBS team provide onsite support regarding behavioural needs
based on the theory of applied behaviour analysis which is a branch
of Psychology. PBS is the gold standard approach for supporting
those with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour.
PBS is also based on ensuring every individual has the most capable
environment to meet their needs. We always aim to use the least
restrictive approach and work together to promote the positive
wellbeing of everyone we support and ensure they have the best
quality of life.
Positive Behaviour Support Interventions
Positive Behaviour Support is focused on:
70% proactive strategies
20% active strategies
10% reactive strategies
Functional assessments - once the individual joins us, we complete
a comprehensive functional assessment with residential and
academic staff to capture a holistic picture of CYP’s behavioural
needs. This helps us identify triggers, functions, and subsequent
strategies to reduce the challenging behaviour
Pre-admissions - we complete pre- admissions assessments to
determine if we can support behaviour needs
Datix/behaviour monitoring - we regularly monitor behaviour
using Datix, behaviour monitoring charts to identify patterns of
behaviour and provide proactive interventions to reduce
incidences of challenging behaviour
Staff training and debriefs- we offer training for staff teams if a
need is identified on various topics such as challenging behaviour,
strategies, and individual CYP diagnoses. We also offer staff debriefs
following challenging behaviour incidences
Token Economy Programmes - we implement the token economy
programme in which positive and target behaviours are reinforced by
the receiving tangible, motivating items for the individual
Positive Behaviour Support triage clinic - every Monday
Formulating plans/guidelines - the information
gathered during this stage is utilised to develop the
Positive Behaviour Support Plan or Behaviour
guidelines
Observations and monitoring forms - we complete
observations and implement behaviour monitoring
forms for example ABC charts to gather data on the
individual’s behaviour presentation
1:1 sessions - behaviour interventions are dependent
on the individual’s presentations and can be
implemented on a needs basis. For example, if a
specific area of concern/need is identified, we have 1:1
sessions on a range of topics such as, anger
management, emotional regulation, anxiety and social
skills
