employers and
Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) is
officially an ‘Outstanding’ college after becoming
the first further education provider in England to
achieve the top grades in every area of Ofsted’s
recently reformed Education Inspection Framework
All nine areas inspected during the visit were rated
‘Outstanding’, including the quality of education,
personal development, adult learning programmes
and apprenticeships. Ofsted were impressed by all
areas of the College’s provision and acknowledges
NSCG’s ‘positive, stimulating and safe learning
environment’, ‘highly motivated staff’, and ‘learners’
exemplary behaviour and attitudes to learning’.
The report also highlights the way in which NSCG
prepares learners for progression, noting that ‘all
learners make very good sustained progress from
their starting points’ and that ‘learners feel that all
staff care about their futures and provide them with
the support and motivation to succeed’.
NSCG are proud to have forged strong working
relationships with a wide range of employers
across Staffordshire and the Ofsted report praised
the ‘exceptional links with local employers and
regional business groups’ and the ‘high-quality
work experience and work related activities that
help learners to develop the skills employers value’.
Employers and trainers are dedicated to working
in partnership to set challenging, distinction-level
assignments and in turn learners can take part in
high-quality work experience and work related
activities, maximising their full potential for future
progression. As part of their visit, a team of Ofsted
inspectors spent time with, and spoke to, a variety
of NSCG’s stakeholders, including partner employers
who are an integral part of the college’s offering to
adult learners and apprentices.
NSCG has a reputation for offering an exceptional
apprenticeship programme with over 90%
of apprentices progressing to full-time roles
with their employer on completion of their
apprenticeship. Currently the group has over 2,300
learners currently studying as apprentices in a
wide range of businesses and sectors including
Michelin, Newcastle Borough Council, UHNM, AWS
Electronics and Brown McFarlane – there really is
something for everyone.
Coupled with being ranked in joint second position
nationally in the NICDEX league tables, which
measure student and employer satisfaction and
student progression, and an achievement rate
of 11% above the national average, NSCG is the
region’s leading provider of apprenticeships.
Learners are sure of a warm welcome and they
can develop their skill set in a caring and positive,
nurturing environment. With first class facilities and
a dedicated staff team who put student success at
the heart of everything they do, NSCG truly is the
place to study in Staffordshire.
