What is your area of expertise?
“I help business owners overcome their biggest
challenges and bring the best out of their people.
“Prior to starting my own business, I was MD of
a food company and managed the sale of that
business to a £400m food group.
“I have good all-round knowledge but specialise in
planning – providing clarity on what success looks
like. Then I ensure actions are identified, prioritised
and individuals are made accountable for delivery.
“Finally, clear measurement/reporting provides
transparency on whether the plan is working or
Why did you want to be a mentor?
“I’d made the decision to become self-employed
after 25 years of being an employee.
“It was the steppingstone I needed to give me the
confidence and conviction I was doing the right
thing. I’m pleased to say it worked.
“Basically, I love helping people to succeed.”
How can you help a mentee?
“The first thing I do is listen to establish what they
want and whether there is chemistry between us.
“It’s then normally relevant to facilitate a planning
session. Then I’ll have a clearer understanding on
where the business is, what their aspirations are and
priorities to focus on.
“Once we have a plan in place, I can help the
implementation – many of my clients choose to do
this and want me to hold them to account.”
How have you supported previous mentees?
“I encourage the business owner to be clear about
what represents success; clear/simple reporting is
