MEET THE TEAM
Established in 2001 and operating across the UK from our head office in Kendal,
Cumbria, Stephenson Halliday provide environmental planning and landscape
architecture services to the development industry.
Recent expansion of Stephenson Halliday has seen new additions to the senior
team who are working with existing familiar faces to develop and grow the services
that we provide to all of our clients. Our dedicated team work across all our offices,
offering support and advice to clients and other team members.
Ken Halliday Landscape Planning Director
Ken is a founding partner of the practice. He has over 25 years professional experience and has
been responsible for leading and co-ordinating the environmental assessment of many large
scale development projects, including minerals, waste disposal, transportation and renewable
energy.
He has particular expertise in the landscape and visual assessment of energy and mineral
developments, having advised on the landscape and visual assessment for over 140 wind farm
proposals throughout the UK.
Mary Campbell Planning Director
An experienced Minerals Planner, Mary has worked for Derbyshire and Northumberland County
Councils, taught minerals planning at Newcastle University and been in consultancy for 11 years.
She was Technical Secretary to the NERAWP and NERTAB and a member of the Planning Officers’
Society Mineral Planning Advisory Group for many years, focusing on minerals, waste, energy
and infrastructure projects. She has experience and knowledge of the English, Welsh and Scottish
planning systems.
Her expertise in minerals planning has recently been recognised by the Local Government
Association (Planning Advisory Service) who engaged her to provide training to Local Planning
Authorities throughout England on decision making for unconventional oil and gas planning applications.
Alastair Willis Planning Technical Director
We believe that high quality, well planned development is the
driver for sustainable economic growth. Success relies on
expert guidance, planning and delivery across all phases of
development. Experience counts and our strong track record
of securing planning consent across all project scales from
national infrastructure projects to small scale local proposals is
reflected in the long term client relationships we build and the
repeat business we enjoy.

Sarah Lapsley Associate Planning Director
Sarah joined Stephenson Halliday in November 2017 as Associate Director in the Glasgow office.
She has a strong background within residential development having started her career within
a strategic land company. Since moving into consultancy, Sarah has worked on a wide range
of projects, coordinating the submission of application of a broad range of scales and sectors
including residential, commercial, renewable energy and most latterly minerals.
Our design solutions enrich not just the physical place but the
experience of our built environment and ultimately local culture.
Stephenson Halliday provide the professional expertise and
depth of experience to realise the development aspirations of
our clients.

Alastair joined Stephenson Halliday in January 2018 as Technical Director of Planning. He brings
extensive town planning experience and knowledge in all areas of property planning; including
residential, commercial, retail and tourism development. He has developed a reputation for
providing clear planning advice, with a strong technical understanding of planning law and policy
interpretation.
Within the Newcastle team, he is leading the expansion of Stephenson Halliday into larger scale
property planning.
