New Gaffer?
Sssh, Don’t Mention Football
During these increasingly desperate times, to
mention any football is to lay yourself open to
accusations of being uncaring. Or to be
deluged by moans about the greed of Premier
League players. The defence of wanting
normality is often frowned upon. Thus, the
recent HFC revelations were particularly
unfortunate from a timing perspective. Our
thoughts feature later in this edition.
Pleasing our debut online issue was well
received taking HFC into new areas. For the
first time, Academy players, exiles abroad, ex
first teamers and even in-need-of-culture
supporters of Alvechurch FC and Barry Town
FC embraced our new reach. We’re also
excited by the volume of marooned fans
willing to back our endeavours, hence our
speedy turnaround. Whilst TB debutants this
season don’t match the volume of first-team
first-timers, it would be remiss not to mention
our latest newbies Andy R, Andy B, Jimmy,
Mark and Norman.
Few Non-League managers are genuine club
leaders. That’s club, not team. Rare
exceptions are Reynolds at FC United and
Ainsley at Spennymoor. People who
understand club culture and see the benefits
of players and supporters coming together.
Josh Gowling could be in this rare bracket.
Intriguingly, he’s shared his media access
ideas to astonished HFC resident media man
Jamie Griffiths.
The first manifestations were online Twitter
Q+A’s. During the first session, eternallynosey fanzine editors nudged our gaffer way
past his allotted hour of responses.
Predictably in early exchanges, Josh wouldn’t
be drawn as to whether he’d already “got the
gig” yet such was the volume of future
