opportunity with Down
Royal!”
Alderman Amanda
Grehan, Councillor for
Lisburn South, said:
“As a member of the

I know this will be an
incredible partnership!
“Our fundraising
vision for this year is
to revamp the school’s
hydrotherapy pool
to benefit the 220

By Shaun O’Dea
‘
WINGED Leader’, the hot
favourite for the feature at
the Tynan and Armagh point
to point at Farmacaffley on
Saturday, duly scored with the
minimum of fuss and is currently
5/1 second favourite behind his
stable companion ‘Vaucelet’ and
will bid to gain compensation for
the neck defeat last season in the
Foxhunters at the Cheltenham
Festival next month.
Trainer David Christie’s stable
star led before four from home
and, with a superb display of
jumping, easily cantered into the
lead going clear with All-Ireland
Champion rider Barry O’Neill in
the saddle.
Assistant trainer David Christie
Junior said: “I’m more than
happy with that and next stop is
Cheltenham.”
The champion rider was
completing a double, having
readily collected the hunt race
aboard the Tom Dreaper trained
‘Carrigeen Castle’.
County Antrim rider Dara
McGill was another in double
form, when claiming the first and
last races.
The young rider made all in the
first race on the Warren Ewing
trained ‘Intense Approach’ to
prevail in game fashion and
notably local handlers sending
out three of the first four
finishers.
McGill again made all to land
the concluding contest on
the Colin McKeever trained
‘Ballylinch’, owned by leading
producer Wilson Dennison, who
also owned the fourth placed
‘Dotraki Treve’.
While the winner of the opener,
a son of Irish Derby winner ‘Jack
Hobbs’, is now for sale, the last
named will now target a winners
race.
Team Crawford supplied
three of the first four home in
the mares maiden, with the
Stuart Crawford trained ‘Brief
Statement’ and the trainer’s
brother Ben aboard, readily
beating stable companion ‘Ask
Isabella’, while another brother
Ross supplied the fourth placed
‘Time For Joy’. The trainer of the
winner indicated she could now
run on the racecourse proper.
The Gerald Quinn trained
‘Cadoudal Saint’, owned by Philip
McBurney, who provides the Mid
Antrim course at Broughshane,
won the geldings maiden on
his debut in good style, with
dual Northern Champion rider
Noel McParlan steering and is
yet another destined for the
bloodstock sales arena, having
been bought for £45,000 at the
2018 National Hunt Store Sale.

thought she ran with a great deal of promise.
I followed her next run, when she won at
Chelmsford and thought there was definitely
more improvement to come. No plan has
been ‘hatched’, as of yet, but we would like to
race her on. We may give her a rest following
