HE three
Two-phase
competitions,
1m, 85cm and
70cm, all ran on
time at Lusk’s on
Sunday, August 28,
with varying number
of jumps in each
class. The metre
class was 1800m
with 20 jumps, while
the other two were
slightly shorter at
1700m, with the
85cm having 18
fences and the 70cm,
16 fences.
Unlike the Eventing
Ireland Knockany
Event, the Lusk’s
two-phase did
not make the
competitors ride up
the steep hill, hence
the time was easier
to make.
The show jumping,
consisting of nine
fences, caused
very few problems,
other than maybe
an odd time fault.
Competitors then
went straight on up
the lane to start the
cross-country, which
was supervised by
Sarah Whiteside and
Orla Dunn.
In the metre, Neil
Morrison went
second on ‘Diane’
and was a clear
winner, with a zero
score.
The 85cm was
divided into two
sections due to the
large entry in this
class. Section A
was won by Sophie
Price riding ‘Molly’,
this combination
being a regular at
Lusk’s; meanwhile,
in section B, Dan
McEvoy was the
outright winner with
the family there to
cheer him on.
It was great to
see so many young
children riding
successfully round
the open fields on
their ponies. The
70cm class had been
sympathetically built
for all the novice
and young riders.
Jenny McCurry
was the ultimate
winner, getting the
big princess rosette
supplied by Helen
Troughton from
Honeyhill Rosettes
and a share of the
prize money.
Lusk’s are running
a one-day event and
two-phase again on
September 18, the
final one of 2022,
so save that date in
your diary!
