ONE
of
the
many
positive
outcomes
of
the Baileys Horse feeds
Flexi Eventing Series is
the encouragement of all
riders, but, particularly,
the underage who can
progress and develop at
their own pace. This has
been very evident this
year with the younger
riders dominating many of
the classes each week.
This week, it was the
turn of 13-year-old Maya
Constable, who came
runner up in a competitive
class of 17 in the Pre
Novice ‘B’.
Despite the fact that she
has been around horses
at
her
grandmother’s
yard since she was born,
she never really showed
a serious interest until
the summer of 2021. Since
then, she has applied
BRIGHT FUTURE: Maya Constable and ‘Duncarbery
Cascade’ competing at the Flexi Eventing Series.
(FW07-554NN)
herself diligently to the
sport and moved on
quickly from her 24-yearold school master, ‘Smurf’.
She
competed
with
Eventing Ireland for the
final two Northern Region
events last season as a
12-year-old, in the EI 90P
class, on her lovely 13-yearold Connemara pony,
‘Duncarbery Cascade’, aka
‘Cloud’, where she placed
second and third. She
also regularly competes
her mother’s event horse,
‘Urneypark Big Cat’, in
dressage and jumping.
Maya has the luxury of
being home-schooled and
trains twice a week with
Trevor Smith in Gilford.
She believes it’s the
consistency of training
that has allowed her to
progress so quickly in
the discipline of eventing.
Maya is excited for the
season ahead, as she plans
to move up to the EI 100
with ‘Cloud’. She also has
plans to ‘steal’ her mum’s
‘eventer’ as soon as she is
age appropriate!
Those at the Northern
Region predict a bright
future ahead for Maya and
look forward to following
her progress.
