Show jumpers make their mark
NTERNATIONAL show jumping returned
to Balmoral Show last week and, while the
majority of the participants were Irish,
they were joined by competitors from
Great Britain and others from as far away
as Australia.
The prestine grass surface of the main
arena at Balmoral Park provided for top class
jumping, with some incredible horse and
rider combinations making their mark - in the
national classes as well as the international!
Irish riders dominated the prizes in the
concluding Bottle Green and Horse Sport
Ireland two-star Grand Prix, with Niamh
McEvoy
and
‘Templepatrick
Welcome
Limmerick’ (ISH) claimed victory, ahead of
Kevin Gallagher and ‘Ballypatrick Flamenco’
(ISH) in second, while Max Wachman and
‘Quintini’ took third spot.
The Under 10’s Championship is always
popular with spectators, with these young
riders steering their mounts like seasoned
professionals. On this occasion, Lucy Kent
and ‘Grantstown Snoopy’ took the honours.
Meanwhile, the Schools’ Team Show
Jumping also returned to Balmoral, with the
team from Omagh Academy claiming the top
spot. The Dominican College team, all the way
from Wicklow, secured the Schools’ Tack and
Turnout Prize.
