Penultimate week
of Dressage League
at Ardnacashel
W
EEK five of Ardnacashel’s Dressage League was
held on Sunday, February 19. This week it was
the turn of judge, Fiona Young to sit at C and
be wowed! Thankfully, Ardnacashel Equestrian
has a long list of excellent judges to call upon,
giving competitors fair marks and constructive comments.
Again, the first class of the day was the Intro Junior
Assisted, which was won for a second week in a row by
Ester Lowry on her fabulous pony ‘Hope’. Another winner
for the second week was Erin West, who steered her horse
‘Paddy’ to a win in the Intro Junior class.
Moving on to the hotly contested Intro Senior section,
saw the rivals Jane Bruce, Nicola Caughey and Debbie
Smith battling it out. The scores were high and the points
will be close in this league. This week, Debbie Smith took
the red ribbon on board ‘Breaffy Heaven’, while the blue
ribbon was picked up by ‘Ringneill’s Minx’ and Jane Bruce
and then the yellow went to Nicola Caughey on board her
lovely grey ‘Draughton’s Cobweb’.
Debbie Smith kept up her high scoring talent into the
Four-year-old class taking home another red ribbon. The
Newcomers class was once again won by Holly McCarroll
and ‘Ballydearg Zara’, knocking out a commanding score
of 69.61%.
Suzanne Cobain won the Veteran class on her 18-year-old
ISH mare ‘Elsa’, which she has owned since 2010 - there’s
nothing like a partnership with a good mare! Suzanne
was happy to see the inclusion of a specific veteran class,
celebrating the joy of owning an older horse. Another new
class on the schedule is the Connemara, Irish Draught
and Mountain and Moorland class, in which Suzanne rode
her seven-year-old Irish Draught by ‘Moylough Bouncer’,
‘Nora’ into second place. Meanwhile, Lucy Donnan took
first on board ‘Romeo’. The inclusion of these classes
acknowledges the variety of horses attending the league
and the difference in type and movement, allowing for
riders to be competitive within their sections.
The next class of the day was the Prelim Senior, this
week won by one of the fabulous Donnan sisters, Holly
riding her own mare ‘Suzie’ to an impressive 86.11% score.
In second place was Lisa Torrens, third Claire Adair, fourth
Daline Hamilton, fifth Amanda Telford and sixth was Nicola
Caughey.
The penultimate class was the Novice section, which
was won by Holly Donnan riding ‘Suzie’, picking up her
second red ribbon of the day. Rounding up the day was
the Five- and Six-year-old class, won by Kacey Pollock on
