HORSEWEEK
153CM PONIES: Helen Sawey and ‘Rachra
Supreme’ won Class 9 153cm Ponies at the
Lusk’s Working Hunter Show. (FW09-569NN)
L
USK
Equestrian
held the second of
their 2023 winter/
spring
Working
Hunter shows on
Sunday, February 26.
Again, the weather
was beautiful and the
competitors were at
Lusk’s in good time for an
earlier start of 9.30am,
due to the large entries.
The
60cm
starter
stakes class was not
without problems, as the
beautifully
decorated
fences
caused
some
to spook, while some
parted company with
their young mounts.
The Murphy girls, Ellie
and Lily, had no such
problems. Ellie won the
60cm and Lily went on
to win the 70cm class,
with both ponies turned
out to perfection and
no doubt destined for
greater things.
The Young Horse class
and the Traditional Irish
Horse class were both
well supported, with
some lovely horses in
both classes.
Pony classes five, the
143cm and nine, the
153cm were also well
supported, with Ted
Geary
and
‘Twilight
Dancer’ winning the
143cm, while Helen Sawey
on ‘Rachra Supreme’
took the honours in the
IMPRESSIVE: Ben Cousins and
‘Shannaghmore Skys the Limit’ won Class 3
for Four and Five-year-old Horses at the Lusk’s

153cm.
The biggest class of the
day, the 80cm, was won by
Gwen Scott on ‘Othello’,
while Lesley Jones won
both the 1m and 1.10m
classes on ‘Leo’ and
‘Max’ respectively, with
both judges awarding full
marks to ‘Leo’ in both
phases - which was a first
ever at Lusk’s!
Fran Warden did a
wonderful job ensuring
that all riders were in
the ring on time, with
the result that the show
ended five minutes early.

Brilliant Breen kicks
off week in Doha
with 1.45m CSI5* win
SHANE Breen’s run of winning continued
last Thursday (February 23), when he won
the CSI5* Special Two-Phase 1.45m class in
Doha, Al Shaqab.
Breen and ‘Haya’ jumped clear in
both rounds of the Special Two-Phase
competition and took the victory in a time
of 30.84 seconds in round two, 0.28 seconds
clear of France’s Kevin Staut in second, with
Brazil’s Francisco Jose Mesquita Musa in
third.
The Tipperary man won in Sharjah last
week, when his new mare, ‘Instrumental’,
landed the 1.45m CSI2* Grand Prix, and he is
clearly a rider full of confidence at present.
‘Haya’ is owned by Breen Equestrian and
Old Lodge and Breen was delighted with the
performance.
The combination continued to compete in
Doha, Al Shaqab for the rest of the week.
Jenny

all
the judges on the day
- Lisa Dundee, Sandra

shots all day for anyone
who wants to record
their success on Sunday.
Most people got well
fed with Jackie and her
team in the cafe!

ESERTMARTIN Horse Agility Club are
delighted to be holding their inaugural
event on Saturday, March 25, as a charity
fundraising day, to support ‘Charlotte’s Gobi
Gallop’, in aid of the Veloo Foundation for
Children of the Peak Sanctuary in Mongolia.
In June, Charlotte Moore will undertake
the challenge of riding (galloping!) 700km
across Mongolia in just 10 days - a brave and
formidable challenge, but for a wonderful
children’s charity, which the club are keen to
support.
This promises to be a fun day of equine
agility for horses and their riders. The full
obstacle course includes typical horse agility
tasks, like the see-saw, noodles passage,
standing block, bridge, curtain, water, flags
and tarps. Obstacles will be completed inhand first, then ridden if you choose to do so
(under 16s must have adult supervision).
There are NO FEES for the day; a light lunch
is included; participants will receive Horse
OBSTACLES: Right - Flags and umbrellas could
be among the obstacles at the equine agility
charity fundraising day. (FW09-517NN)
Agility Club rosettes; and Charlotte will give a
brief lunchtime presentation about the charity
and her preparations for her Gobi Gallop.
All charitable donations will be gratefully
received. Organisers look forward to a fun
fundraising day of horse agility obstacle
challenges, fun and learning!
The Charity Fundraising Day is on Saturday,
March 25 from 10am until 3.30pm at 3 Rectory
Road, Tobermore, BT45 5QW.
Registration is essential. Early booking is
