L
USK’S held the first of
their Garden Events
on Sunday, March 6.
Competition started at
10am over the 15 fence
course in the arena, followed
by 15 fences in the country,
some of which were on the
grass.
The weather was cold but
dry and the conditions in the
arena, cross-country and the
all-weather were first class,
with the largest class being
the 85cm.
Under the stewardship
of Sarah Whiteside, who
counted and recorded the
scores, while Katy Saunders
was judge and announcer
in the arena and Catherine
Tumulty was time keeper on
the cross-country.
New cross-country judges
from Lusk Liveries, Grace,
Tabitha and Olivia, proved
their worth reporting results
to Sarah in the control
box. They were joined by
stalwarts, Jill and Elaine,
plus Catherine and her
daughter Callie. Mother and
daughter, Sharlene and Katie
and Gail and Maddie helped
throughout the day, along
with the girls competing.
The 1m class seemed
almost too easy, with lots
of clears, however, the time
played a big factor with some
finding it hard to make the
time, but there were three
double clears who fought
for the prizes, with Jonny
Mulligan taking the red on
Karen King’s ‘Queenie’.
The 85cm class proved
more difficult, with only
JUMPING WELL: Sam Hamilton and ‘Clifford’ came second in
the 1m class at the Garden Event at Lusk’s. (FW10-552NN)
TOP SPOT: Johnny Mulligan and ‘Queenie’ claimed the top
spot in the 1m class at the Garden Event at Lusk’s.
(FW10-550NN)
seven double clears out of a
large entry, but it was Max
McDonnell on ‘Derrygimbla
Atlantic Storm’ who claimed
the top spot.
The 70cm class was
built
sympathetically
to

the
younger
riders, especially over the

cross-country section, with
the result that many came
home clear. Una Megoran
with ‘Misty’ stayed ahead of
the rest in that section, but it
was great to see many of the
riders returning with wide
smiles on their faces!
