What a super summer show at Lusk’s
L
USK Equestrian held their summer
show on the last day of July for Working
Hunters, horses and ponies preparing
for the upcoming Dublin Horse Show.
Judges in the Working Hunter grass
ring were journalist and breeder Ruth Loney
(jumping), ably assisted by Sharlene Scott,
and breeder and show man David Lyons in
the conformation and ridden section, who
was helped by Callie Patterson and Emily
McClelland. They worked from 10am until
4.30pm, but with a break for a super lunch
prepared by Jackie in the White Horse Cafe.
The course as usual was varied and
demanding to prepare the Ulster competitors
for Dublin and organisers wish them all well
at the RDS.
The showing section, also on grass, didn’t
finish until 5pm, with judges Tony Bell and
Andrew Greer (riding), ably assisted by Paul
Horner and Fran Warden ensuring that all
went according to plan and on time, again
with a break for lunch in the glorious sunshine
1M: Jamie Smyth rode Queenie in the 1m
Horse class at Lusk’s. (FW32-509NN)
of a summer day.
The age and weight classes were poorly
supported on the whole, but the coloured,
riding, veteran and racehorse to riding class
were very well supported with the judges
highly complimented for their judging and the
resulting rosette winners.
Lusk’s welcomed Paula McCarthy for the
first time to judge the pony showing, assisted
by Gail Davidson. Numbers were small in the
classes, however, the parents made up for it
with their loud support and the excitement
with the first prize rosettes from Honeyhill
Rosettes (Helen Troughton).
Photographer Marty O’Neill was on hand to
capture those special moments and can be
contacted via his Facebook page.
Events Director Sarah Whiteside said she
was happy with the overall support and was
delighted with the text she received about
the show and the many compliments of the
judges.
Lusk’s will take a summer recess to allow
for holidays and those going to the RDS, and
their next event is a two-phase on August 28
for your diaries.
