ISA TALBOT has had a
very successful summer,
riding her five year old Irish
Draught gelding B.E. Calidia.
Lisa was placed second at
the RDS in the 4 and 5 year
old performance Irish Draught
class on B.E. Calidia, who is

Valerie Davis. Lisa purchased B.E.
Calidia from Penny Campbell in
2019 as a 3 year old and careful

Irish Draught.
The versatility and talent of the
Irish Draught was evident when
the partnership was also placed
second at the Northern Ireland
Performance Horse Championships held at the Meadows
Equestrian Centre, claiming the

highest placed Irish Draught of
the day, being presented with a
beautiful rug from the Northern
Ireland Draught Society.
Furher success was recorded
when B.E. Calidia won the Irish
Draught ridden and working
hunter section at Knockaview
Equestrian Centre’s summer
show, which had record entries,
before going on to claim
champion working hunter and
champion ridden horse, then went
on to take reserve supreme.
Lisa will continue to produce
this tremendously talented Irish
Draught carefully, selecting competitions and schooling venues.
Daire gets off
to flying start

FARMWEEK
AUGUST 26 2021
ORTADOWN amateur rider Daire McConville got off to a flying start when Orchard
Grove (16s to 11/2) supplied his first
British winner on his first cross channel
ride which was also a winner for his new
boss, trainer Kerry Lee.
The local rider is a regular on the Northern
point to point circuit while having also partnered
winners on the track on family owned runners.
The winner was held up in the rear for most of the
race before making steady progress into second
prior to the final flight and kept on gamely to score
in the straight in the long distance International
Amateur Jockeys Hurdle at Stratford on last
Thursday night.
McConville said: “I’m thrilled to win on my first
ride in Britain and on the first ride for my new
boss Kerry Lee and want to thank her and the
owners for putting me up. I only moved over last
month to join Kerry and I’m considering applying
for a conditional riders license. I spent time with
Nicky Richards who was very good to me but opt
to base myself with Kerry.”
Meanwhile at York, also on Thursday,
Forbearance (18s to 12/1) which won the Fillies
Handicap at Down Royal’s Ulster Derby fixture,
successfully took a big step up in class to land
the Listed Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes. Hollie
Doyle was enlisted by trainer Jessica Harrington
to partner her runner which gave a very game
display to win by a nose in a photo finish.
The winner led two furlongs from home but was
joined by runner-up Domino Darling at the furlong
marker but kept on bravely to prevail.
Doyle said: “Jessie told me to get her settled. I
didn’t want to get done for toe and I couldn’t go
any faster at halfway as it is hard to make up
ground here and she was very brave at the finish.”
