Drying ground proves a major factor at Tyrella
By Shaun O’Dea
THE
East
Down
point
to
point at Tyrella proved a major
disappointment for supporters, with
only 28 horses going to the start in
the six races, including a walk over
and a two-runner race - the drying
ground proving a major factor.
The opening pair of contests
supplied the best quality of the day
and the duo of races collected by
members of the Doyle family. ‘Vision
De Maine’, with William Hendrick in
the saddle, looked a nice prospect
when making a winning debut in
the opener, beating his four rivals
including favourite ‘Invicta Du
Berlais’, quickening turning into
the long straight and producing the
best turn of foot to score for Cormac
Doyle.
Sean Doyle supplied the winner
of the mares maiden ‘Bobbisilver’,
again winning on her debut, part-
nered by Liam Gilligan, despite
losing considerable ground at the
penultimate fence but rallied and
stayed on to good effect to prevail.
The winners of the first two races
are, as usual, destined for the
Bloodstock Sales.
‘Racavan’, with triple Northern
Region Champion rider Noel
McParlan aboard and trained by
Gerald Quinn, was always to the fore
in the geldings maiden and proved
game at the finish to hold the strong
challenge of the runner up ‘Isholo
Du Vivien’ to win.
‘Soivegotachance’, with the benefit
of previous course experience, made
all with Alex Harvey aboard to win
the last of the day - the winner owned
and trained by Matthew Kelly, while
‘Boro Melody’, partnered by Jordan
Radcliffe, provided the teenager
with his initial victory when beating
odds-on favourite ‘Grain De Folie’
by a distance in the winners contest
and ‘Dento Des Obeaux’ took the
hunt race for the second time for
local pair, trainer Pat Turley and
Declan Lavery.

MOIRA POINT TO POINT WILL GO
AHEAD UNDER NEW LEADERSHIP
THE Iveagh Hunt have formally
notified the Irish Turf Club that
they are unable to stage the
fixture scheduled for Saturday,
March 25. However, the County
Down Hunt, whose regular
venue is the longstanding
Loughbrickland track and
that being unavailable, have
submitted a request and,
subject to Turf Club Protocols
and a course inspection, it
is envisaged that a point to
point will be run at the Moira
track under the stewardship
of the County Down Hunt. This
will conclude the speculation
relating to the meeting and
ensure that yet another local
fixture is not lost.
