Leading figures speak
at keynote show event

UFU welcomes members
to Balmoral Show stand
THE Ulster Farmers’ Union is looking forward to welcoming
members and their families to this year’s Balmoral Show.
The UFU leadership team, staff and technical support team
will be available over the four days to chat with members
about any issues that are affecting them such as: TB, ammonia,
Brexit, rural crime and more.
This year on the stand they will have a number of family
activities including: a milking station, touch and feel, beefy
jigsaw puzzles, and a plant a seed station. Winning entries
from the UFU schools competition will also be on display.
The usual complimentary refreshments will be available to
members but if you would like to make a donation to the chosen
charities, Queen’s University Centre for Cancer Research &
Cell Biology and the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution
(RABI), it would be very much appreciated.
The UFU and NFU Mutual will be at stand B1, 1st Avenue.
EADING figures in the food
industry are set to speak
at the Ulster Bank lunch
during Balmoral Show.
George Mullan, Managing
Director of ABP in Northern
Ireland, will address an audience
of senior agri-food industry
stakeholders and business people
at the event on Thursday, May 16.
He will be joined by David
Keeling, CEO of Keelings Retail,
which supplies fresh fruits,
salads, vegetables, flowers and
plants to the retail sector.
The invitation-only gathering
will take place in the Ulster Bank
Lounge and is the show’s flagship
corporate event.
Past speakers have included
directors of companies including
Moy Park, Hilton Food Group,
Devenish Nutrition, and leading
supermarkets.
David Keeling is managing
director of Keelings Retail, the
largest division of Keelings.
David Keeling’s grandparents,
William and Christina Keeling,
started the business in the
1930s, growing a range of fresh
produce and supplying them to
local markets. His father Joe and
uncles managed the business
when he was growing up. David

studied international marketing,
French and Spanish and, in 2000,
he joined the business, leading
the farms section.
George Mullan has worked for
ABP Food Group for 30 years. He
has played a number of key roles
within the group in Ireland and
overseas, including in ABP’s entry
into the Polish beef processing
sector. In early 2016, George was
appointed Managing Director of
ABP in Northern Ireland.

comprises of two processing
facilities, in Lurgan and Newry,
which process both beef and
lamb. It employs 650 people and
works with over 4,000 farming
families and employ 650 people.
From here, it serves all the leading
retailers in Northern Ireland and
in GB.
ABP has collaborated with Fane
Valley in a 50/50 joint venture
regarding Linden Foods.
Cormac McKervey, Senior Agriculture Manager, Ulster Bank,
