Equestrian’s
May Day Show took
place on Monday,
May 2, with Showing
and Working Hunter
classes both on grass to
help competitors prepare for
the upcoming RUAS show at
Balmoral Park.
Both rings started at 9.30am
sharp and the Working
Hunter 60cm class was
especially for the children
and beginners starting out on
their competition experience.
There were a few adults
with young horses, but many
lovely ponies looking after
their enthusiastic young
riders, which was a pleasure
to see. The Working Hunter
ring continued with the
70cm class, followed by the
Young Horse class, where
some lovely young horses
were starting out on their
equestrian career. The two
pony classes, 143and 153,
were very well supported and
proceedings went on until
6pm, with the final class of
the day being the 1.10m.
Judges for the day were
Roddy
Dean,
originally
from Belfast and now living
in Kilkenny, assisted by
Blanche Thompson; while
in the conformation and
ridden section, organisers
were privileged to have
Ulster’s top cob and show
horse producer, Reid Finley,
assisted by Charlene Scott.
In the showing arena,
judge Pat Laughlin and ride
judge Bryan Murphy, all
the way from Gowran, Co.
Kilkenny, made their second
appearance at the May
Day show and were highly
complimented for their hard
work through the day from
9.30am until 5.30pm. Showing
director Paul Horner and
Fran Warden were there to
make sure everything ran on
time and prizes were given
out to the winners.
CLASS 6: Oliver Kinnear and ‘Polar Man’ on their way to
winning Class 6 at the May Day Show at Lusk’s.
(FW19-513NN)
Jenny and Harold were
delighted for the wonderful
and generous sponsorship
from the McConnell family
from
Doagh,
Ballyclare,
which certainly put a smile
on the faces of the winning
competitors,
along
with
the fantastic rosettes and
sashes from Helen Troughton
of Honeyhill Rosettes in
Portadown.
