HORSEWEEK
FARMWEEK
JANUARY 23 2020
Causeway Coast Arena hosts
Leslie Irvine Memorial Show
O
RGANISERS
of the Leslie
Irvine
Memorial
Show
would like to thank
everyone who came
out in support
of their show on
Sunday, January 19.
Leslie was an avid
supporter to the
RDA Causeway Coast
Arena often helping
at shows; it was with
much sadness that
his friends learned
of his passing. The
Air Ambulance is the
nominated charity.
Whilst the icy
weather looked
as if it may impact
on the entries, it
actually was the
opposite, with an
unprecedented
number of entries for
the horse classes;
whilst unfortunately
this did impact on
the start time for
the ponies, it was
a very welcome
position to be in
and the organisers
appreciate
everyone’s support.
In the 70cm horse
class, Erin Hermans
was delighted to
win a bag of meal,
kindly donated by
Fane Valley Store,
Ballycastle. Whilst
the class had a good

number of entries,
Erin was the only
double clear.
Competitors in
the 80cm class
came from as far as
Strabane and the
class culminated
with a total of eight
double clears.
The 90cm class
was the biggest
class of the day and
in total there were
10 double clears,
while the 1m class
was well supported
class with four riders
going clear.
Ponies started
at the later time
of 3pm, due to the
large number of
horse entries. Young
Lacey McLaughlin,
who rides at
Crindle Stables,
was delighted to go
double clear in both
the cross-poles and
50cm classes.
The 60cm class
was well supported,
but only had one
double clear and
that went to local
rider and Route
Hunt Branch of
Pony Club member,
Rebecca Coulter
on her pony ‘Jake’.
Rebecca and ‘Jake’
were also delighted
to win a bag of
meal, sponsored by
Fane Valley Store,
Ballycastle for going
double clear in the
70cm class.
Emma Bratton
on ‘Twitch It’ and
Rebecca Coulter on
‘Jake’ both ended the

faults.
Causeway Coast
Arena would like
to thank Bellisle
Equestrian Store,
Coleraine and
Fane Valley Store,
Ballycastle for
their generous
sponsorship; without
the sponsors, it
would be impossible
to present these
prizes.
It is always good
to see such support
and the organisers
really hope everyone
had a good day; a
special mention to
avid supporters,
the Patterson
family from Crindle
Stables; organisers
really appreciate
your support. David
