ISITORS to this year’s Balmoral
Show will be able to enjoy food
and drink which contributed
to Northern Ireland being
acclaimed as the World’s Best
Food Destination at the prestigious
World Travel Trade Awards in London last
November. Northern Ireland came out
on top in the international competition.
The important global award recognized
the success of Northern Ireland’s Year of
Food and Drink, an initiative delivered
by Food NI.
Visitors will also be able to talk to
many of the producers in the Food NI
Pavilion at the show, now among the
biggest and best agri-food events in the
UK and Ireland.
Thousands of quality products will
be showcased by upwards of 100
participants in the Pavilion organised by
Food NI, now a major attraction during
the four-day show.
Michele Shirlow, Chief Executive at
Food NI, commenting on the showcase,
said: “Northern Ireland has undergone
a food and drink revolution in the last
10 years, resulting in an abundance of

at this year’s show to experience the
very best of Northern Ireland local
produce. There will be around 100 local
food and drink companies and over 30
award winning chefs attending. Tesco
is again supporting the Theatre Kitchen
which will bring dozens of exciting
demonstrations, including vegetarian
dishes and how to make the perfect NI
cocktail. Find out about Peas Please and
making a pledge for more veg.
The Pavilion will showcase a huge range
of exciting products such as a range of
quality seafood, award winning cured
meats, live baking demonstrations, some
of our favourite Northern Ireland brands
including Tayto, Cookstown, Moy Park
and Dale Farm, and some new additions
to the Pavilion including Finnebrogue.
THE Northern Ireland Nuffield Scholars
Association will be holding a briefing event at the
Balmoral Show for all those interested in applying
for a Nuffield Farming Scholarship. Taking place
in the President’s Pavilion at 3.30pm on Thursday,
May 16, this briefing will introduce Nuffield
Farming Scholarships.
The special guest speaker will be Tom Rawson.
Tom is a director of Evolution Farming, a land
management company based in England that
looks after about 7,000 acres of both conventional
and organic land, including 2,400 dairy cows, its
young stock plus some beef, sheep and arable
with most of the land work done in hand. He is
also a Nuffield trustee, formerly national vice
chair NFU Dairy and for six years sat on the board
of AHDB Dairy. Tom will outline how the Nuffield
experience helped him in his farming career.
The Nuffield Farming Scholarships Trust award
life-changing scholarships that unlock individual
potential and broaden horizons through study
and travel overseas, with a view to developing
farming and agricultural industries. Nuffield
Farming Scholarships Trust award approximately
20 individuals each year with the opportunity to
research topics of interest in either farming, food,
horticulture or rural industries.
