HE Charollais female sale ended the
season on a high note for breeders
with averages up and an almost total
clearance reflecting the continuing
confidence in the Charollais breed.
Topping the trade was a tremendous ewe
presented by the Tullyear flock of Drew and
Stephen Cowan, a Highway Obelisk daughter
with great power and muscle. Carrying
triplets to Oakchurch Royal Ryan this lot
went to Southern Chairman Edward Buckley
for his Kilbarry flock, the buyer having to go
to 1500gns to secure his purchase.

GOOD PRICE: James Fullerton with William McAllister’s
in-lamb shearling which sold for 1000gns at Dungannon
Charollais Female Sale.
Charollais females
in great demand
sold his top at 1000gns, this powerful ewe sired
by Riverdale Preacher also heading South to
County Monaghan. This pen achieved the top
average on the day selling four tip-top ewes
all sired by Preacher and in lamb to Bunderg
O’Driscoll to average 730gns.
David Mawhinney achieved a top of 800gns
twice for two smart great ended Logie Durno
Lotus daughters, one heading South to County
Monaghan and the other going to Lisbellaw.
Both scanned in lamb to Wernfawr Rex. The
Rockvilla pen averaging 489gns for 20 sold.
The Tullyear flock sold two at 800gns, the
first a great muscled Bannville Masterclass
Grand daughter carrying twins to Oakchurch
Royal Ryan selling to James Reid, Ballymoney.
Donegal breeder Jim Devenney also had to pay
out 800gns for another in the Tullyear pen,
this stylish Tullyear Oman Grand daughter
carrying twins to Royal Ryan. The Tullyear
pen averaging 565gns for 18 sold.
The Banville flock of Berry Brothers sold
their top at 700gns, a great bodied ewe
sired by Banville Norman. Carrying twins
to Drumsallagh Pierre, this lot went to Jim
Devenney, County Donegal.
Topping the trade in the ewe lamb sector
was Derek Bell achieving a top of 620gns for
a big strong Ballynoe House Nelson daughter
selling to Edward Buckley, County Cork.
Another eye-catching ewe lamb from this pen
sold for 600gns, this one sired by Cardoonan
Rambo, also heading South to County
Wexford.
Averages: 55 in lamb shearlings 516gns; 11
ewe lambs 390gns.
