bar and lounge area). A full size bronze

In 2012 the Dad’s Army museum
acquired the original ‘Jones’s Van’,
which fans of the series will know as the
butcher’s delivery van and the main
mode of transport for the platoon. The
van is currently housed in the Charles
Burrell Museum, another dog friendly
attraction in Thetford.
Canine volunteer, Archie, who is Head of
Operations at the museum, is on hand to
teach you about the history of the Charles
Burrell Works and the steam and traction
engines, and of course show you the
famous ‘Jones’s Van’. Other exhibits
include machinery, three Charles Burrell
engines and recreated workshops.
For fans of Dad’s Army a visit to the
museum is a must. We had a totally
pawsome time and were made to feel
very welcome. The friendly and
informative volunteers at both museums
obviously love what they do and are
more than happy to answer any questions
you may have and pose for photos.
And so our day out in Thetford came to
an end and we were heading for home
when a sleepy voice from the back of the
car said, ‘So Dad’s Army was a TV show
and I can’t enlist in the Home Guard after
all.’
‘I wondered how long it would take you
to work that one out,’ I replied.
‘Oh well, probably all for the best,’
woofed Pupstar. ‘I’m not very good at
marching. What I don’t understand
though is why you kept saying ‘Pupstar
Pike’ and then collapsing into giggles?’
‘Oh Pup - Don’t Panic, I was just teasing!
Would you like a scarf for Christmas?’
