Teach with confidence - with
As a primary school teacher, you’re expected
to wear many hats. Some may fit easily, and you approach those
subjects with confidence because you know how to cultivate those magical
moments. Some may fit less easily, and, instead, you find yourself grappling with
a curriculum and techniques you aren’t comfortable with as well as struggling to
translate them into a plan that works for your class.
Kapow Primary’s aim is to help both
specialists and non-specialists alike with
clear, well-designed curriculums for
foundation subjects. Each scheme of work
follows the national curriculum and
additional guidance from the DfE and
Ofsted. Your pupils will benefit from the
essential knowledge-rich curriculum, while
simultaneously developing the skills to help
them become successful lifelong learners.
Kapow Primary’s progressive spiral
curriculums will ensure you’re covering all
the required topics, so you can be
confident you’re not leaving anything out.
Their structure means you’ll not only impart
the knowledge your children require, but
you’ll also be able to reinforce this
knowledge over the course of a year.
Currently, Kapow Primary delivers lesson
plans to over 4,400 schools, which choose
from Art, Computing, Design &
Technology, French, Music, and RSE &
PSHE. Each scheme of work is developed
by teachers, for teachers. Kapow Primary
is aware of the challenges you may face in
these subjects and is committed to
designing schemes of work that help you
to overcome them.
As you would expect, each scheme of work
is supported by knowledge organisers,
guidance on adapting to mixed-age classes
or schemes of different length, plus
detailed assessment guidance and
webinars. While each lesson plan is
supported by key vocabulary documents,
videos and editable presentations, it is the
integrated CPD that really sets Kapow
Primary apart. Bespoke CPD videos allow
you to develop your understanding of the
topic so you can learn in parallel to your
students rather than simply delivering a
presentation – and this approach helps
hone your own skills and subject
confidence over time.
So, before launching History and
Geography as new subjects in
September, Kapow Primary asked teachers
what aspects they found most challenging
– and listened. In the newly released
Geography scheme, detailed fieldwork
guidance will help you to design and
develop effective fieldwork scenarios
whatever the age, location and
socio-economic background of your pupils.
Whereas in History, a specially designed
interactive timeline will help embed a sense
of chronological awareness in your class.
These specific features sit alongside
up-to-date, modern case studies,
engaging hands-on lessons, and clearly
marked cross-curricular lessons. They form
a fresh approach to lesson planning for
History and Geography.
In addition, both subjects include
the following features.
• Units are built around enquiry questions
and cycles that encourage children to
question, observe, measure, record and
then present their findings. Consequently,
further questions may be raised leading
onto more discussion. This method of
enquiry builds
the skills and knowledge needed to
facilitate successful fieldwork.
• Bespoke CPD videos are included so
you can build on your subject knowledge
and develop confidence in delivering the
lessons.
• Skills and/or knowledge catchers for each
unit are designed to help measure
progression.
• Units are flexible – allowing you to inte
change units within a key stage and use
the curriculum mapping to ensure you still
meet the necessary attainments for each
year.
• Presentations can be personalised with
photographs and local resources to reflect
the specific circumstances of your class.
• A variety of learning modalities are offered
to ensure each lesson is fully inclusive,
including specially commissioned songs,
videos and animations.
• Topical debates, seasonality and key
special days give relevance to the learning.
Kapow Primary knows that nothing beats
those moments when a class becomes
engaged in excited discussion, when
groups work together in concentrated
activity, or when a child grasps an idea for
the first time.
