An introduction to the Teacher Hub from ABRSM
Hilary Smethurst-Evans, ABRSM’s
Teacher Development Manager gives
some insight into the creation of the
Teacher Hub…
We understand what it’s like to be a music
teacher – perhaps working in a variety of
locations, missing adult conversation or
working through your lunch break running
extra-curricular bands. With this in mind,
the Teacher Hub provides a place where
you can join a community of like-mind
teachers, share resources, knowledge and
expertise, and find relevant and engaging
CPD.
Take a look and you’ll find spaces for
conversations with your fellow music
teachers – whether you’re an instrumental
or vocal teacher, or work in a primary or
secondary school. There’s also a wealth
of free material, including free videos to
watch, articles to read and resources to
download. We’ll be adding to this
regularly to create a thriving space that
embraces new content and fresh ideas
guided by you – the teachers!
Alongside places to chat, collaborate and
find brilliant content, we’re providing
online courses. We know how hard it is to
find relevant and engaging CPD so we’re
introducing a variety of courses that are
easy to follow and will fit around your
commitments. Our course contributors
are teachers just like you – out there
working in a variety of settings including
schools and music centres – and we hope
this means that our courses will resonate,
inspire and motivate.
We all know that CPD is important and
that when we’re able to, we enjoy
engaging with it and relish the
experience. A group of teachers talking
together about teaching is so positive and
inspiring, with everyone focused on
learning about new ways to deliver,
engage and do the best for their pupils.
Over the years we’ve run many courses,
conferences, inset days and presentations,
but the Teacher Hub is different and we are
very excited about being able to support a
wider range of teachers than ever before.
Over time we will be adding courses to
provide options for all music teachers in
all contexts, so that everyone can find
something that works for their needs and
interests.
So many of us at ABRSM are teachers,
and we’re looking forward to hearing
about you, your work and your aspirations
through the Teacher Hub.
